What is a passport?
A passport is an official document issued by a government that identifies the holder as a citizen of a country and allows them to travel abroad. It is internationally recognised and serves as proof of identity and nationality. In addition, it facilitates entry and temporary stays in other countries under the immigration rules of each place.

FAQs about the sworn translation of passports
In situations where the document will be presented to official authorities in a country where the language of the passport is not understood. Some common situations include:
- Immigration or residency formalities
- Visa applications at embassies or consulates
- Enrolment in educational institutions
- Opening bank accounts abroad
- Legal processes, such as trials, adoptions or international employment contracts.
This depends on the purpose of the translation and the specific requirements of the procedure:
- Partial translation: In many cases, only relevant pages are translated, such as those containing personal data, photographs, signature, date of issue, expiration and passport number.
- Full translation: It may be required if the passport includes important additional information such as entry/exit stamps, previous visas or official entries.
It is always best to confirm the requirements with the organisation requesting the translation.
